03/06/08 - Boost signs contract with major South African newspapers to build and host their WAP-portal. Boost recently signed a contract with major South African newspapers The Times and Sunday Times to build and host their WAP-portal.
The Times and Sunday Times are part of Avusa, which is one of South Africa’s largest media houses. As the African mobile market currently is the fastest growing in the world (see news article under the Market Update section), it is an important part of every media houses’ strategy to have a strong presence on mobile.
Colin Daniels, Publisher of Times Online, is leading the project: "In South Africa there are more people accessing the internet via their mobile phones than via the internet on regular PCs. Therefore it is important for us to be able to offer our content in a user friendly and efficient way to our customers. In addition we expect the mobile channel to turn into a highly interesting advertising window. It was important for us to choose a partner with a comprehensive service platform and the needed experience, so we very much look forward to launching these mobile services together with Boost"
Øystein R. Skiri, CEO of Boost is enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with The Times and Sunday Times: "This is an important step stone for us as part of our strategy on becoming an international market player. With their wide content production The Times and Sunday Times will be an ideal case for us with respect to showing the capabilities of our platform for adoption and distribution to mobile. We also have strong expectations to the potential of linking the advertisers to the mobile portal. Mobile advertising is really starting to kick off now, and this is strongly emphasized by the major focus this area now attracts from global players like Nokia Interactive, Google, AdMob, Yahoo etc. In addition we look at Africa as one of the most interesting areas in the world to build our business in at the moment"
